We were as surprised as anyone when we received media accreditation to attend this Saturday's San Francisco Symphony's Black & White Ball, described as "one of the world's most extravagant black tie parties." We've been hitting Thrift Town, the yoga studio, and the self-tanner in anticipation of tomorrow's event, which runs at the Civic Center from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

We're trying to act all cool about this, but we're super excited to be a part of one of the events that (for better or worse) defines San Francisco, and the chance to see musical acts like The Violent Femmes, as well as the odder selection of Minnie Driver is an added perk.

With tickets running $160 and up (net proceeds go to San Francisco Symphony's education programs), this is the first time we've been able to go. We'd love to hear any tips, anecdotes from past Balls, or questions about how we make our attendance at this event jibe with our commie leanings in the comments, and we'll report back on Monday on the shindig!
