SFist has been using products from both companies every day for the last few years, and would like to point out that this is a huge blow to the market competition for creative services software. Whereas Macromedia once envisioned themselves competing on all fronts with Adobe, and even leading the charge on the Flash front (causing Adobe to side with SVG after their horrendous LiveMotion product was a dismal failure), the two were locked for years in a court battle over user interface patents before reaching a settlement.

Macromedia fans were eagerly awaiting an update to the MX series of web design tools, but neither company is speculating on future product plans at the moment, according to E-Commerce News.
