Of course, we could do this and imagine these things from the comfort of our Crayola-laden, early-70s cozy bungalow. The foundation for these dreams was already in place.

Drawbridge, based in San Rafael, is an organization that uses art to help homeless children cope with their situation by providing an opportunity for them to just be kids and express themselves. Besides just having fun, the children can express feelings that might otherwise get pent up and become destructive. Kids know and understand what's going on, but are completely helpless to do anything about it. The stress of being homless is enormous on children and art is a great way for them to relax. What they might not be able to express in words, they can express in paint and crayons and chalk.

You can buy greeting cards with drawings from these kids. And, we know there are lots of artists in SF so why not donate time? A couple of hours a week, working with the kids - providing them a safe environment to express themselves. And, if you're an art gallery owner you should probably get your butt in there - maybe you'll discover the next big thing!
