The tsunami benefit show at 12 Galaxies last night was a huge success, with a packed house and great acts raising over five thousand dollars for the American Red Cross' disaster relief efforts. The great turnout and generosity of everyone involved -- the organizers were hoping for maybe half what they collected -- made friend of SFist Nate Cavlieri very happy and proud:
Right now, the morning after the whole thing, I've yet to get my mind around the event. We were stitting around just over a week ago and Flo and I were talking about throwing a house party to try and raise some money. But because of people like Nick Tangborn (from the local label jackpine social club), who set up all the bands and the team at 12 Galaxies and a hundred other people who all did one thing or another - the thing came together very fast and turned into something that was really substantial. I was honestly moved by the whole thing.

SFist is happy to have had an opportunity to publicize the event, and even happier to have had a chance to attend and enjoy the stellar music. It was our first time at the new venue, named after Frank Chu's nemesis, and we found it to be maybe the perfect place to check out live music. Good to know their community involvement doesn't stop at letting Mr. Chu occassionaly get up and warn us about impending doom. A sincere thanks and congratulations from SFist goes out to everyone involved.
