The news story that got the ball rolling was an investigation into the state of various local parks. There was the usual interviews with upset neighbors at the lack of any sort of yardwork and a hilarious bit where they follow one city gardener as he meets other gardeners for a long breakfast, does half-an-hour of work, then gets lunch, visits a bar, and runs errands. All this, of course, at the expense of us, the taxpayers who pay for his salary. Another gardener pulls a Tom Sawyer and talks a few of the homeless people into doing his work while he sits by watching (we kind of like that one). That same gardener is also shown taking some of the plants in the park home. Besides embarrassing the Recreation and Parks Department to do something about the gardeners, the report of ABC 7’s I-Team also lead to a massive clean up of Delores Park by the neighbors.
