What better way to celebrate the original date of Britney Spears's nuptials than at feminist pop culture zine Bitch Magazine's release party for its latest issue, on the theme of Fake? The party kicks off at 9:00 on Saturday night at the Mile High Club in Oakland (BARTable from MacArthur, or drive on down to 3629 MLK Way). Come check out local bands like the transgender 80s-influenced Lipstick Conspiracy (the Bay Guardian's best girl band of 2004 (scroll down)), socialist indie-punkers the cold war, and 60's girl-group-esque Lizzy and the Redbirds, and chill to DJ Neil Martinson spinning the tunes. Doors are $10-20 sliding scale, and since it's a fundraiser (Bitch is, after all, a nonprofit media source -- like NPR, but with better graphics and music reviews), all additional donations are welcome (and tax-deductible too.)
While you're at it, pick up the latest issue or subscribe now -- the latest issue features an interview with Air America sweetheart Janeane Garofalo, a look at pregnancy plotlines on TV, thoughts on racism in hipster marketing, and hey, stuff on humiliation porn and blogging too.
SFist discloses: this SFist is on the Bitch nonprofit corporate board -- and does it because the magazine and the parties are just so darn good! So come out and support all forms of local indie media, both online and off!
