Last weekend we got in touch with our inner tourist and took part in the rebirth of a San Francisco legend - the Cliff House. Since January of 2003 it has been largely shut for renovation, but they are now serving food and drinks again -- a comfortable repose from the unpredictable weather at Ocean Beach. SFist's first impression of the new wing and Sutro's restaurant is that it's a bit too LA. The references to Art Deco are obvious, but in the thirties the Sutro Baths were hemorrhaging money while LA was leading the way. We feel that a more sensitive approach would have been to embrace Art Nouveau in order to fit in with the period in which the existing Cliff House was built. But no developer can mess up the view, which -- as you can see -- is absolutely stunning. And the food is better, too.
