Breaking news: In addition to headlining Coachella this year, Radiohead has decided to swing back through the Bay Area for the second year in a row, i between their Coachella weekends, performing two back-to-back nights at Berkeley's Greek Theatre. Tom, Jonny, and the boys will be here April 17 and 18, as Rolling Stone first reported, and tickets go on sale this Friday, January 20, i.e. Inauguration Day, at 10 a.m.

The Berkeley dates are part of a mini US tour announced Tuesday which also includes early April dates in Atlanta, New Orleans, Portland, and Seattle — but the band clearly has some affection for the Berkeley Greek since it's the only stop with two nights booked, likely because they've selected a smaller venue than they usually book.

Radiohead previously performed at the Greek Theatre on their 2006 Hail to the Thief tour — and I can attest it was a pretty magical and memorable show, with fog rolling into the venue off the Bay, no fog machines required.

The band's ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool, was released in May 2016, and they performed segments of it during their most recent Bay Area appearance at Outside Lands in August. The album was ensconcned on many of the year's best-of lists, landing at #10 on Pitchfork's ranking of albums of the year, and #6 on Rolling Stone's.

Below, their full Outside Lands set.

Following Thursday's BIG NEWS that everyone's favorite genre-blending geniuses Radiohead have a new album set for release and the band is heading out on tour this spring and summer, we get a fresh rumor that they will be headlining Outside Lands this year, among other festivals.

The report comes from unidentified "sources" speaking to the site Consequence of Sound which says that as part of Radiohead's jaunt to North America, set to begin in July, they will hit the 25th annual Lollapalooza in Chicago, Montreal's Osheaga Music Festival, and our very own moody and foggy fest in Golden Gate Park, which this year is scheduled for August 5th to the 7th.

This would fit well in the band's schedule, after they've already confirmed festival dates in Europe, including Primavera Sound in Barcelona in June, and Nos Alive in Lisbon. Following Outside Lands they would likely make one or two more stops in the US (L.A.?) before a confirmed appearance at the Summersonic Festival in Tokyo on or around August 20.

Radiohead last played Outside Lands on the first night of the festival's very first outing back in 2008. They swung back through the Bay Area to do a pre-Coachella show in San Jose in 2012.

For their part, Outside Lands organizers Another Planet declined to confirm anything, saying, "We would be thrilled to have Radiohead headline Outside Lands, but we do not announce our lineup for a couple of months." Look for the official announcement to come around early June, but let this just serve as encouragement for Radiohead fans to consider those cheaper early-bird passes, when they go on sale.

As SFGate notes, this is the first rumor we have of any act on this year's OL lineup, which is likely still in the negotiations phase.

After successfully tackling Yaz's 1982 New Wave classic Upstairs at Eric's last month, Peaches & Co. return on July 14th to take on the dark, paranoid and decidedly anti-yuppie album that marked a stark turning point in Radiohead's career. If you spent the late-90s in your parent's basement spouting Ethan Hawk-isms and lamenting The Gap, rather than hoarding Sex & The City DVDs, then you may have finally found a drag night to match your interests.

The performers for OK Computer come from a range of local productions like Trannyshack, counterPULSE and Daytime Realness including: Trixxie Carr, Precious Moments, Stanley Frank Sensation, Nikki Sixx Mile, Raya Light, Kim Burly, Jordan L’Moore, Fruitbomb, ElijahMinnelli, and U-Phoria. Expect things to get really dark around track nine:

All your Radiohead-fan friends hoofed it to San Jose last night to see Radiohead, and we hear it was a good set, heavy on material from last year's King of Limbs but with plenty of older favorites thrown in. Also, Thom Yorke has a ponytail now, and a certain critic over at NBC seems to believe that Joshua Tree was a Radiohead album.

Yorke was "po-going through '15 Step,' ponytail (!) flapping back and forth from his Joshua-Tree-era vest to his familiar stubble..." according to NBC Bay Area scribe Scott Budman, and so it would appear that Budman has confused Yorke with Bono, or something.

Reportedly, Yorke introduced "The Amazing Sounds of Orgy" (from the Amnesiac era) by saying to the sold-out San Jose Arena crowd, "This is a song about when banks started investing in bullshit. Silicon Valley bullllshit." Everyone cheered.

Meanwhile, Jim Harrington of the Oakland Tribune says the band "came up a bit short" with last night's show. But we think he's just being a snarky bitch for the sake of it, since he calls their 2008 Outside Lands set "majestic" and all we can remember about it was that the sound cut out four or five times.

The Guardian's Charles Russo, a devoted fan, says it was "a high-energy performance from an eclectic setlist that was at once a gem for fanatics and a thrill for the casual fans that they dragged along."

And Ian S. Port at the Weekly says it was "a pretty great concert even as far as Radiohead shows go" and writes, "After the general loathing of the OK Computer era, and the isolated gloom of Kid A and Amnesiac, Yorke (and the band) seem to have found their footing in The Beat."

When? No clue. Where? We can only assume the Empire Plush Room, of course. But the fine folks over at SF Weekly's All Shook Down just got word that everyone's favorite band to claim that they love will be making a San Francisco pitstop during the leg of their North American tour. We just love us some bluegrass music (occasionally, that is). Hot Buttered Rum is often described as a rock band but with bluegrass instrumentation: fiddle, banjo, mandolin, up-right bass and acoustic guitar. Love it. You've heard Dan Tyminski's voice on the popular movie, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" He sang the Grammy-winning (and ever so popular) song, "Man of Constant Sorrow" that featured the Soggy Bottom Boys.
Moby must be sick with envy over this one. Tonight the "unconventional young network," Emmy Award-winning Current TV, will air a taped, private, hour-long Radiohead concert on New Year's Eve (and on New Year's day on broadcast Current TV.) Thom Yorke and his merry band of croonies will perform each track off of their top-listed 2007 effort, In Rainbows.

With words that could spark the battle for the title of Christ 2.0, David Neuman, President of Programming for Current TV, says that, "with a ground-breaking network and revolutionary band both serving as visionaries in the new media and music landscapes, this partnership is a natural fit." Wow.
1. Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street - Complete Edition Soundtrack: Though we aren't completely sold on the musical itself (we have only seen the new John Doyle production and it wasn't our favorite) we sorta have a crush on movie musicals. Plus, the movie will be as literal as you get which is very different from the recent metaphorical production that just came through San Francisco. It's Sondheim - we know he's brilliant but paired with the likes of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, we are hoping it becomes genius.
SFist Grace checks out a sneak peek of the new P.T. Anderson movie, There Will Be Blood.

There will also be: greed, husksterism, rage, isolation and open-handed brawls.

The Castro Theatre recently hosted a sneak preview of this film, which is slated for limited release in mid-December. Based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!, Anderson's latest film features Daniel Day-Lewis as David Plainview, an unpredictably violent and spiritually aimless oil-baron-in-the-making. Shot in the desolate landscapes of New Mexico and Texas, made all the more uncanny by an eerie score composed by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, the film chronicles 20 years of Plainview's life as he goes from fast talking dealmaker to a full fledged tycoon reminiscent of Citizen Kane.

A definite departure for Anderson, this period film still carries his distinctive dark humor and attraction to troubled characters. As Plainview snatches up plots of barren land and drains the black oceans that lie beneath, he continually runs into an equally fast-talking young preacher played by Paul Dano (from Little Miss Sunshine). Their wild and acerbic dealings are the spirit of the film and bring out the best in Plainview's otherwise opaque exterior.

The genius of this film is how problematic, and often disturbed, Day-Lewis's character is, and yet, you can't help but like him. And of course it's shot beautifully with untamed sweeping skies and burning oil fields. If you love PT Anderson, you're going to see this no matter what we say, but you will not be disappointed and you will not be able to predict what happens next. If you're ambivalent about Anderson but love a big meaty film that resonates with great filmmaking like Once Upon a Time in the West and McCabe and Mrs. Miller, go too.
