Major League Baseball is investigating allegations of abuse and infidelity made against SF Giants reliever Sean Hjelle by his estranged wife, Caroline Hjelle. The claims were made public Friday in a viral TikTok post that garnered over 3 million views before it was deleted.

As SFGate reports, Caroline appears in the video with the couple’s two sons, accompanied by overlaid text stating that Hjelle abandoned the family on Mother’s Day, shortly after she learned of his alleged affairs and “stopped putting up with his abuse.” The post is captioned: “Yeah I’ve had to be silent for too long about this,” and includes hashtags referencing divorce, infidelity, and solo motherhood.

While the couple’s current marital status is unclear, Caroline’s account has previously featured content referencing single parenting and personal distress dating back to late 2024, according to SFGate. One post from April included the hashtag #divorce and a reference to “lies” that left her “devastated.”

In response to the viral post, the San Francisco Giants issued a statement on Saturday acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations, as reported by KRON4. “We are aware of these serious allegations. We have been in contact with MLB. These types of allegations fall under their jurisdiction, and we won’t be commenting further,” the team said.

Manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Hjelle had informed him about the situation Friday night. “We talked to MLB,” Melvin said. “At this point, it’s in their jurisdiction… I really can’t comment on it further.” Melvin added that Hjelle would be available to pitch in Saturday’s game, though he ultimately did not appear in the 3-2 win against the Boston Red Sox.

Hjelle has not publicly denied the claims. Speaking to ESPN after Saturday’s game, he confirmed that he and Caroline are in the process of finalizing a divorce. “I feel confident in saying that I will have one [a statement] eventually,” he said. “I’d like to meet with the people handling the situation with me before I make an official statement.”

One pioneering couple who can bravely afford to treat money as a fun little experiment is ready to premier their revolutionary new documentary, Life on Bitcoin, next week at the Internet Archive.

Bitcoin, for the uninitiated, is like money in that it is a convenient, mutually agreed-upon convention. However, Bitcoin differs from money in that it is not nearly as mutually agreed-upon. Fortunately, the currency makes for great tattoos.

Life On Bitcoin follows newlywed bitcoin evangelists Austin and Beccy Craig "who struggle for 100+ days to live entirely on the upstart currency." Exploiting their honeymoon for artistic fodder, "it felt like learning to swim by jumping in the deep end of the pool,” said Austin. Indeed, it looks like it's truly sink or swim for the duo. Who keeps the bitcoin in the event of divorce?

After Kim Conover, 31, paid a visit to her divorce attorney on Sunday afternoon, her estranged husband, Kevin Covover, 35, shot and killed her outside said lawyer's office, later turning the gun on himself. "The 2 p.m. shooting happened in front of 10 Keller St., a small office building where the woman had been visiting the attorney," reports The Press Democrat, adding, " Kevin Conover died at 5 p.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Police identified him as the shooter and said his wound appears to have been self-inflicted."

When police arrived at the scene, they found the bodies on the street.

Most heartbreaking of all, according to Press Democrat, was that Kim was the mother of four children, "including a twin boy and girl younger than than 2 years old that she had with her husband," and two teen girls.

Incidents like this are few and far between in the small, picturesque town north of San Francisco. (However, the city made national headlines in the Polly Klaas kidnapping-murder case.) "It was this beautiful spring day," quipped Sonoma County Supervisor David Rabbitt, shopping at a just a block away at the time of the shooting. "It makes you pause."

The same day that the world learned that her husband the former Governator had fathered a child with an employee, Maria Shriver hopped over to Chicago to appear on one of Oprah Winfrey's last shows, in blue sequins. The appearance was clearly scheduled long before Shriver knew her husband's philandering was going to be a huge national headline yesterday, and as the AP reports, the topic didn't really come up.

Shriver came on stage at the United Center with Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King. Shriver told Winfrey that the talk show host has "given me love, support, wisdom and most of all the truth." Shriver said she knew she wasn't "alone in receiving those gifts."... Shriver told Winfrey that the talk show host "believed in others so they could believe in themselves."

We imagine Oprah was biting her tongue hard to keep from being like, "Maria, I'm sorry, we need to talk about this love child, girl."

In related news, TMZ has obtained information and photos of the boy Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered out of wedlock. He supposed looks "shockingly like" his father, even though the images are pixilated.

After news broke today that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a household employee in 2003, which prompted the break up for his and Maria Shriver's marriage, the former California Governor's 17-year-old son, Patrick, announced that he changed his last name to Shriver. The Schwarzenegger's third child went on to send out the following Twitter message, "Some days you feel like shit, some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet i love my family till death do us apart."

That's just...depressing. Poor guy.

Katherine Schwarzenegger, the couple's oldest child, sent out the following message a few hours later, "This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as i begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!"

The drama never ends with these two. Once again, all is not well in the Wright-Penn house. According to People, Robin Wright Penn filed for divorce from her husband Sean Penn last week. While the Marin-based celebrity couple have an off-again/on-again marriage, this latest development seems somewhat definite. "The papers, filed in Marin County, Calif., on Aug. 12, state that 'both parties have already agreed to [shared] custody' over their minor son, Hopper Jack, 16, and that 'the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property.'" (Just who gets to call Tosca home away from home is still up in the air.) Irreconcilable differences is listed as the reason for the divorce. The two, married in 1989, have filed for divorce twice, as recently as May of this year. This also puts an end to rumors that Sean Penn might, in fact, be gay. He's not. With this kind of chronic drama, he is officially a lesbian.

This is coming from Page Six, so take it a massive salt lick. Kimberly Guilfoyle, Fox News Channel anchor and former wife of SF Mayor Gavin Newsom, has allegedly called it quits with her second husband, Eric Villency. When the two met in 2006, according to Page Six, "[p]assions flared, a prenup was signed, vows were swapped, and Ronan [their son], now 2, came along." Now, it seems, the two will get a divorce while sharing custody of their son. Alas. But is Kimberly hatching a plan to return to the warm, sinewy, long arms of Gavin? We can dream, can't we? (Oh, we kid, Jennifer! We kid! Sort of.)

Two-time Academy Award winner and Marin resident Sean Penn filed for divorce from his wife, actress Robin Wright-Penn. Penn filed the papers on Friday. If you recall, Sean and Robin had planned on calling it quits back in December 2007, but reconciled. The thespianic couple, who have two children, starred in several movies together, including Hurlyburly (1998) and She’s So Lovely (1997). But the question remains, why are they breaking up? Who's to say. Maybe Penn and James Franco can finally be together? We can only hope.

While lawyers and civil rights advocates agree that Prop 8 will (most likely) be upheld when the State Supreme Court makes its decision, no one can say for sure if forced divorces will affect the 18,000+ couples who were legally married. In what could be the biggest debate in all of this is, well, "is." The wording of Prop 8 reads like this: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Kenneth Starr claimed during this month's hearing that the phrase “is recognized,” even in the present tense, would also nullify existing same-sex marriages that happened in the past. But as Ashby Jones of the Wall Street Journal points out, "Advocates who favor allowing the gay marriages to stand point to a California legal tradition of protecting what are called 'vested rights.' The idea is that if somebody obeyed the law in exercising a right, any new law must be extremely clear in its intent to take away that right." That is to say, if you want a law to work retroactively, said law must be clear about it; the gay marriage ban was not.
