Why So Low, Murder Rate? Newsom, That's Why.

Dial M For Murder pic 1.jpg

Yesterday, after SFist asked why the San Francisco murder rate in 2009 has been so low, the Examiner answered: Mayor Gavin Newsom.

While the city almost hitting 50 at the same time last year, in 2009 San Francisco played host to a mere 20 homicides at the end of May. The reason for the dip in murder? Increased enforcement, a citywide gang sting that toppled groups (e..g, Mara Salvatrucha, Jets, MS-13, Sharks), and "more aggressive prosecution for stemming the flow of homicides."

The Police Department’s zone strategy, concentrating enforcement in The City’s most violent neighborhoods — including Bayview-Hunters Point, Mission, Western Addition, Tenderloin and Visitacion Valley — has resulted in a dramatic decrease in murders, Newsom said. The strategy was born from an analysis that showed most homicides were fueled by drugs and gangs, and that both killers and victims were likely to be on parole or probation. The plan hinges on working alongside state parole agents and The City’s Probation Department.

And in a strange remark, Director of the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, Kevin Ryan, bragged, "It’s not really nuclear physics ... We’re in the high-crime areas, we’re arresting these guys and we’re holding them accountable through the courts. It’s created an environment where these guys are off the streets."

Great. And said easy, breezy lesson in crime fighting, it seems, only works when Newsom runs for higher office. But better late than never, right? Right.

cool ... can he work his magic on armed robberies too?

In Ingleside, Captain David Lazar's station, that is the emphasis now. They have arrested several crews respobsible for multiple robberies, but also recognize that is the ongoing issue right now.

the phrase fragment, "failure is an orphan" comes to mind.

Well, shit. I may have to vote for the douchebag now.

Cutting a murder rate in half is impressive. Especially during a recession like the one we're having.

Did Jerry Brown have anywhere near those results in Oakland?

I do not know the statistics, but crime was much lower under Brown than it is under Dellums now, even though Dellums actually has more police officers. Oakland is a joke. Newsom is a political opportunist, but if you want to see the actual definition of incompetent look across the bay.

Hoodlums aren't recession proof, y'know. Bullets cost monies.

The Feds seemed to have a large role in rounding up the gangs. The gang injunction probably worked as well, along with the belated realization that new housing projects make crime worse and not better, at least for the first few years.

"I'MA GONNA CUT YOU GOOD BITCH! Oh look! A photograph of Gavin Newsom. My, he is a handsome fellow. Let us have tea and crumpets and discuss this fact."

If you had any clue how much violent crime has increased under Dopey Fong and Dipshit Newsom you would all be shamed into a total lack of existence for voting for these two incompetent assholes.

Real, violent crime has increase by 375% because these two retards have done nothing in their tenure as social servants to fix anything. Gavin is busy banging his friends wife and Fong is busy trying to act competent.

He's a social climber and she's a barely literate moron who can't find her gun with her own hands. Oh, unless you need something translated from Mandarin to Engrish. Tits on a frigging bull, these two.

Only when their little time in office expires will everyone realize how they were cooking the books and lying about everything they did while in office.

These two morons should be kicked all the way down the block for screwing us all and paying either of them a single penny for their incompetence.

hahahahaha. homicides aren't "real, violent crime"?

If you're arguing that a ton of crime is going on but not being recorded, the blame for that also lies with the citizens. It's our duty to report crime that we see, especially if it's violent.

It's a good idea to have the phone number of your local station programmed in your phone, so you can report it when your car is broken in to, you see somebody being mugged, etc.

The way I see it, if you're going to get blamed when things are bad, it's only fair you take a bow when things improve. Personally, I don't thing Newsom had any more to do with the lower murder rate than when it was much higher. Plus, the year isn't halfway over. Lots can change.

Because of the economy there's been a marked decline in the number of batshit insane programmers driving their minivans up from the peninsular and mowing down lunchtime sandwich buyers.

But batshit insane programmers can still live in SF and kill their whole families, right?

Just ask Devan Kalathat... oh wait you can't because he killed himself along with five members of his family.

And who's fault is that? Newsom's fault, apparently.

Your off with your west side story comparison...Mara Salvatrucha and MS-13 are the same thing. MS-13 is an abbreviation. The M stand for Mara, and the S stands for Salvatrucha. Makes sense huh? The 13 can stands for the letter M, which is the thirteenth letter of the alphabet, and which also stand for La Eme, aka the Mexican Mafia...which MS-13 (and the Surenos) are affiliated with. Nortenos on the other hand are controlled by Nuestra Familia. N is the 14th number of the alphabet, so Nortenos use 14 just as Mara Salvatrucha and Surenos use 13.

oops, meant to say 14th letter.

The murder statistics have been artificially skewed because Gavin's administration has altered what is considered a murder.

Ie: A recent murder-suicide was classified as merely a double-suicide.

Why would this be done? It's obvious: Both Mayor Newsom and District Attorney Harris are both hoping for state elected seats in their political climb.

For a little more fuel to the fire: Did anyone notice that murder statistics are NOT publicly disseminated by the City of San Francisco? Go to the source: sfgov.org crime maps and take a look at the database. It lists all crimes EXCEPT murders.

Btw: A better website is http://sanfrancisco.crimespotting.org/. However, this excellent crime mapping website is crippled for murder incidents because it relies on San Francisco to release the murder data.
