Our bankrupt neighbors to our north (northeast?), Vallejo, are looking to add in some revenue to the city. How? Well, after the neighborhood ousted mega-chain Wal-Mart, Vallejo is looking into luring other grocer businesses to town. While Vallejo isn't allowed to tax foodstuffs, they can tax alcoholic beverage sales. Enter: Fresh & Easy and Beverages & More.
Part of the Tesco chain of grocery stores (currently in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada), Fresh & Easy will be opening a total of 3 locations in a city of 130,000 people. Reportedly, Vallejo is also courting Beverages & More (or BevMo to their frequent customers) for a location in town as well. Here's to alcohol being a reason to support the economy! We can drink to that! (We'll drink to everything)
For those ex-Arizonites, Nevadans, and Los Angeleans looking for a Fresh & Easy near us in San Francisco, our very own Bayview will be getting one too.

Wow, when I lived there 10 years ago they didn't want the Trader Joe's to come in because another alcohol-selling establishment would just contribute to the problems. So much has changed.
On the flip side, most communities aren't exactly encouraging cigarette smoking with their various bans .... despite their share of revenues from the 1999 big tobacco settlement.
Oh yeah, Fresh & Easy. Parent company Tesco doesn't take kindly to criticism.
Pretty sure they officially changed their name to BevMo -- that's what my countless receipts say.
So maybe it's just Beverages & More to their OG customers. Kinda like Kentucky Fried Chicken no longer exists. EVERYTHING IS GETTING FASTER AND SHORTER WELCOME TO THE FUTURE FRIEND
Vallejo is dropping their name for something younger, cheaper, catchier and easier to remeber -- "VJO".
That's a great idea. Sales to the Maritime Academy will fund the entire fire department. I've never seen booze so cheap as when I lived there and I was limited by my fake ID.
