Along with our friend Dan Carbone, whom we already told you about, the NY/SF theater-as-mind-altering-device company Banana Bag & Bodice was honored on July 16th with three New York Independent Theater Awards nominations for its original play, The Rise & Fall of the Rising Fallen, last seen on this coast at the 2006 San Francisco Fringe Festival.

Rising Fallen was cited by NYIT for Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Production of a Play, and playwright Jason Craig was nominated for Outstanding Original Full Length Script.

We are embarrassed to admit that we ourselves have not attended a BB&B show since we had our worldview permanently skewed by the bacon-and-bunny goodness of 2003 Fringe favorite, Sandwich. However we've loved them ever since for their dare-we-say?-Brechtian goodness and darkly chipper surrealism. You can catch their latest show, The Sewers, at the 2007 Fringe this September, if you're willing to fight the crowds for a ticket.

We say it's worth it. Just don't forget your goggles.

Banana Bag & Bodice performs The Sewers at The Garage, 975 Howard Street, S.F., September 5th-9th and 10th-15th.
