The latest of several announcements about new restaurant projects headed for Oakland's Uptown neighborhood comes from SF's Dosa, which is planning to open their third location there this fall. As Inside Scoop explains, the location is 2310 Broadway, which was formerly both an appliance store and a pet store, and it's across the street from the 2200 block of Broadway where we recently learned that Brown Sugar Kitchen and Bocanova will be opening later this year and where the recently shuttered Pican may be planning to reopen in smaller digs.
Dosa, which has locations in both the Mission and on Fillmore Street in SF, is owned and operated by Anjan and Emily Mitra, with Anjan also serving as executive chef. The Valencia Street location opened in 2005, and was followed in 2008 with the larger Fillmore location, both highlighting South Indian cuisine and the fermented batter pancakes known as dosas. The restaurants are known for upscale presentation and Indian-inspired cocktails.
The Uptown neighborhood is going through a bit of an upheaval with the recent closures of Pican and Locol. Also recently announced was Shinmai, a large new Japanese izakaya and ramen spot headed to 1825-3 San Pablo Avenue later this month.
