Brown paper has covered the windows at Valencia & Kebab's former digs (525 Valencia) since that mediterranean counter service joint closed in September after just 10 months in business. The paper's still there, but a bright new sign is in place and tables were set inside last night. That says Brown Sugar Factory, and I got a little too hopeful that this might be an expansion of Tanya Holland's Brown Sugar Kitchen. Alas, they say no, the place has nothing to do with them, and no word — as of yet — on what these folks are up to.
Previously, the space was occupied as a full service restaurant by Gajalee serving coastal Indian food. Valencia & Kebab never successfully got their beer and wine license transferred over. Stayed tuned on this one.
