We brought you news last week that the Castro's two-year-old Hecho would be shutting down this week for a quick revamp, and it is already reopening with a refreshed look, minus most of the dining tables, tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m., as Hecho Cantina.

Owners Jesse Woodward and Dana Gleim are looking to bring more of a casual bar experience to the place, not unlike they've cultivated at their other neighborhood business, Hi Tops, with high-top tables and a limited food menu, but a primary focus on booze. "We love our neighborhood and we think this will be a welcome addition," says Gleim. "Lots of familiar stuff but with some new twists."

And as she told SFist last week, "Hecho has been amazing but we're realizing over time that people, including ourselves, are more drawn to casual places that kinda let you create your own experience."

At Hecho Cantina that is going to include some of the original cocktail menu, as well as chef Cory Armenta's excellent chile verde (now available in a burrito), as well as a new pool table and pinball machines, and a new "hangout area." And as the mural painting shown above indicates, there will be refreshed look to the space as well.
