Another addition to the new array of Mid-Market eating and drinking options is Waystone, a new wine bar from one of the partners behind Causwells in the Marina, wherefrom came the burger that launched Popsons, which is next door. As Tablehopper tells us, owner Tom Patella and his wife are behind the project, which is now serving lunch and dinner along with 40 wines by the glass, next door to the Warfield and around the corner from the Golden Gate Theater.
Patella is a co-owner of Causwells and the beverage director there, and his partner Alvin Garcia opened burger spinoff Popsons, which has a location in this building at Market and Taylor, as well as one in the old Marlowe space at Townsend and Third. Garcia apparently alerted Patella when the next-door space came available, which also came with its own 22-seat outdoor space.
Here are the food, beer, and wine menus, and in addition to sandwiches, salads, and small plates, there are 25 beers on menu, with four on draught. Later down the line, the menu may expand with ceviches, as well as heartier options for dinner. (The chef-partner is Billy Riordon, who's worked before at La Mar.)
Going to shows downtown no longer means having to eat only at Cancun or Show Dogs, so, be thankful.
Waystone - 992 Market Street at Taylor Street - open daily 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with possible later hours to come
