In the third such collision in three days, a driver in San Francisco slammed into a pedestrian Sunday evening, then sped off never to be seen again.

First, there was Friday's fatal hit-and-run at Broadway and Powell, then Saturday's hit-and-run at Leavenworth and Ellis that killed one man and injured another. On Sunday, a third pedestrian was struck by a driver who apparently had second thoughts about stopping.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 67-year-old man was headed north on Polk Street when he stepped into the crosswalk at Pine Street at around 6:10 Sunday morning.

That's when the driver of a White Chevy S-10 pickup truck with a camper shell headed west on Pine struck the man, according to police.

The driver, described only as a woman in her 50s, got out of the truck to "check on" the man she struck, police say. Then she "abruptly jumped back into" her truck and fled west on Pine, police say.

The man she struck was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of injuries to his leg, and is expected to survive. The driver hasn't been seen since, and SFPD asks that if you know anything about her or the collision, you call their Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
