It appears that Prince just can't quit the Bay Area. Following a "surprise" set of shows at Oakland’s Paramount Theatre on Sunday, the Chron is reporting that he's going to do another show Friday, this time at Oracle Arena.
The 57-year-old musician's Sunday appearances got a rave review from the Chron, which noted his continued acknowledgement of the passing of Denise “Vanity” Matthews, who died in the Bay Area on February 15 and was laid to rest last Saturday in Union City.
“We lost a sister who was moving too fast," Prince said Sunday, dedicating his performance of "Little Red Corvette" to his late protege.
According to the Chron, "a leaked Ticketmaster link indicated the singer was ready to announce another one-off show, set to take place across town at the Oracle Arena on Friday, Mar. 4." Here on Ticketmaster you can see that the tickets are set to go on sale at 4 p.m. today for the 9 p.m. show on Friday.
We're told that Prince has been haunting local nightspots in the interim, with one tipster writing in Monday to say that he "showed up at 1015 Folsom last night for a surprise aftershow...but the crowd was too busy texting and apathetically standing around to dance or sing along and so after observing them for a few moments from the balcony, he left." (A call from SFist to 1015 Folsom to confirm this has not been returned at publication time.)
So keep your eye out, and whatever you do, don't try to sit in his lap.
