Police have arrested the man they say allegedly snatched a toddler from his mother on a Muni bus and brazenly walked away with the child.

On Tuesday morning, around 10 a.m., the mother and her 2-year-old son boarded a Muni bus on the 600 block of Sansome Street in the Financial District. As they waited to get a transfer slip from the driver, a man quickly boarded the bus and grabbed the child away from his mother, walking down the street with him. The mother chased after the man, pulled her son back from him, and re-boarded the bus.

SFPD were not alerted to the incident until later Tuesday evening, but identified the suspect by using surveillance footage. Police allege that 45-year-old Sudesh Singh was the man who snatched the child. According to the Chronicle, he was detained earlier that day on the same street by U.S. Department of Homeland Security officers for "acting suspiciously."

On Friday he was spotted at the SFO BART station and detained, after BART police officers recognized him from an alert. The SFPD arrested Singh and he has since been booked on felony kidnapping and child endangerment.
