The Union Square ice skating rink opened yesterday, with luminaries such as Assemblymember David Chiu and Snoopy in attendance to celebrate. The rink, officially known as The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square (presented by Bank of the West), is a San Francisco fixture that is beloved by children and tourists alike.
Assemblymember Chu and Snoopy were joined by the San Francisco Tremors Synchronized Skating Teams for a demonstration of what skilled skate maneuvers actually look like.
In a yearly attempt to keep things fresh, the rink will play host to a number of special evenings, including the Friday, November 13th Dungeon On Ice. Unfortunately not a collaboration with Kink.com, the "dungeon" in question is a showing from The San Francisco Dungeon — a sometimes spooky interactive theater piece based on San Francisco's history (on ice).
The rink is also playing host to a singles' mixer on Thursday, December 3rd, which sounds like the perfect opportunity to impress a future date with your sick moves.
The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square presented by Bank of the West, which is one of two outdoor ice skating rinks in San Francisco, is one of those classic family-friendly destinations that posts a legal disclaimer in the form of a giant sign letting you know that if you fall and injure yourself, well, that shit's on you.
Tickets are $17 for adults, and $11 for children. The rink will be open now through January 18th, and you can purchase tickets online or in person.
Let the fun begin.
