You knew this day was coming: virtual reality porn will soon be available on your Oculus Rift.
Utherverse, the self-proclaimed "world's only 3D social network," unveiled at the XBIZ conference in Los Angeles the latest version of their "Red Light Center" software, which would allow users of the virtual reality headset to hang out at a virtual strip club and engage in virtual orgies. "I look at virtual reality and I think, 'What are the killer apps here that could independently launch virtual reality to the masses?' Number one by a million miles is adult," Utherverse CEO Brian Shuster told the San Francisco Business Times.
The beta version launching later this month will allow players to interact with others and engage in various sex acts. "Lap dancing, stripping/pole dancing and sex are all live and available to users, and they are all multiplayer—meaning that all the strippers and clients or sex participants are real people," said Shuster.
To nobody's surprise, VR porn is becoming more popular on the Internet as users pick up the emerging technology. Second Life already has already become one of those spots that people frequent to get their virtual rocks off. "The amount of sex that goes on in Second Life is startling. As virtual reality becomes more immersive, virtual sex will become more and more satisfying," wrote UC Santa Barbara professor Jim Blascovich and Stanford professor Jeremy Bailenson in their book Infinite Reality. Pornhub, the world's largest porn streaming website, has dipped their toes into the world of virtual porn but has yet to strike any deals.
Oculus Rift was purchased by Facebook for $2 billion back in March. They have unsurprisingly remained silent on the possibility of porn being used on their gear.
