Tickets are $15 presale or $20 at the door, with "free lap dances all night!!!!"
FRIDAY, JANUARY 16
FAIR: Bringing to life the stories of Edward Gorey is this first night of the Edwardian Ball/World's Faire. This part's the World's Faire, and it promises to be a night of "playful art and elegant exploration featuring Gorey-inspired interactive art, steam-powered machinery, Barbary Coast-inspired Midway Gaming, pedal-powered carnival rides, theatrical stage shows, circus performances, free-wheelin fashion, and Edwardian-tinged rock ānā roll." DANCE PARTY: At Madrone Art Bar every every 3rd Friday of the month it's DJ Dave Paul breaking down the 80s and putting it all back together. At That 80's Show, retro gear is encouraged, so put on those leggings and shoulder pads. There's a $5 cover at the door.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 17
SMOKE SESH: This is a specific one, but if you've got a medical marijuana card, you're in for free at a device testing session in SoMa during the afternoon. "Ever wanted to try 420 products before you bought them? Come try out vaporizers, bongs, grinders and more with 7Pipe, a San Francisco company designing innovative smoking products." Oh yeah, "Top shelf flower will be provided."
(DRAG) SHOW: Witness the birth of Mother, Heklina's brand new drag show at her brand new club, Oasis, and the replacement for the heretofore defunct Trannyshack. This is the debut of what could become an institution, so stop by so you can say you were there when. Expect lights, lasers, and costumes galore in SoMa for $10 a ticket.
DANCE PARTY: At Public Works, check out DJ Fleetmac Wood. It's what it sounds like: recut/re-edited Fleetwood Mac that pays homage and gives a bit of a historical overview. This is apparently popular in London, and it's the first SF show from Fleetmac Wood, whom you can check out here. Tickets are $10 in advance.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 18
COMEDY: Demetri Martin tells jokes at Cobb's Comedy Club in two shows. You know him from his various comedic stylings that have appeared on Comedy Central. He was also amazing in Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock, if you recall that one.
MONDAY, JANUARY 19
VOLUNTEER: It being MLK day, there are tons of opportunities to volunteer. FuncheapSF has you covered with a long list of places and people to help out.
