North Korean refugee Kang Chol-hwan just did a Reddit AMA yesterday, and among the questions asked — in addition to "What were the worst things you saw in your prison camp?" and "Do you think reunification with South Korea is possible?" — was "What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?"

And after spending ten years as a political prisoner and now traveling the world speaking on behalf of the North Korean Strategy Center, where he's now the executive director, what did he say?

When I went to San Francisco, I had Bi-Rite ice cream. It was amazing. There is also this Japanese ice cream in Pyongyang that [North Korean] elites used to eat that was also quite good. But nothing can beat the Bi-Rite ice cream.

Sadly, Mr. Kang did not name-check any specific flavors, but let's assume one of his local handlers steered him to the Salted Caramel.
