Top of the Mark, the bar/restaurant at the top of the Mark Hopkins hotel on Nob Hill, has been a popular date spot since its opening in 1939. And tonight it gets even more traditionally romantic, with a free wine tasting and a screening of the iconic 1993 romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle.
Ah, Sleepless in Seattle. Meg Ryan sure looked different back then (no shade, Meg—I looked way different 21 years ago, too! Aging is a bitch)! And Tom Hanks was 20 years from playing an alleged fabulist. All our lives were so very different back in '93, yet Sleepless still holds up...kind of.
And if it doesn't hold up enough, there's free booze to blunt the offending scenes: before the screening, there's a free wine tasting, tonight of Domaine's Chandon Rose.
This evening's just the opening night of what Top of the Mark calls their "Wind Down with Wine and a Movie" series. Upcoming Tuesdays will feature different wines and screenings of other USA-on-Saturday-afternoon standbys like Sixteen Candles, Pretty Woman (which, if you think about it, is kind of a bold choice for a fancy hotel), and Father of the Bride.
