Ever-popular breakfast and brunch spot Mama's (one of SFist's top ten) is finally going to expand beyond their cozy 35-seat establishment in North Beach with a second location not that far away, at Vallejo and Columbus. The new spot will add 80 more seats to their operation, as well as a bigger bakery operation, as Chron reports.

Additionally, the new 6,000-square-foot space, in the former Piazza Market space at 627 Vallejo Street, will allow them to add a small market that they're calling L'il Mama's, which will sell baked goods and jams from the Mama's kitchen as well as local produce. (They're taking inspiration from places like Local Mission Market.) News of the expansion broke well over a year ago, but they just recently signed a lease and are finally moving forward. The original Mama's will remain intact and probably as popular as ever, serving over 300 covers a day to tourists with guidebooks, brunch aficionados, and viewers of the many TV shows the restaurant has been featured on.

Mama's has been in business since 1951 when Frances "Mama" Sanchez opened it with her husband. They're now on their third generation of Sanchezes managing and cooking things, including granddaughter and baker Felicia Sanchez-McDonnell. The restaurant is best known for things like their Jewish coffee cake, their Dutch baby apple pancake, and raspberry jam M’Omelette®. And you can count on a line out the door every day, at least until they quadruple the number of people they can serve with this new location.
