For some people, a snifter of brandy with granny at Christmas dinner doesn't quite fulfill their standards for a swingin' good time. Luckily for you, the holiday is over and the city is once again your oyster. Tonight, why not get into a smooth groove with a good old soul party at The Chapel?
The Chapel's Friday night Soul Party features classic deep soul and pop from Marc & The Casuals featuring Bart Davenport, Pete Straus (The Dwarves), Marc Capelle (AMC/Tommy Guerrero) and Todd Roper (Cake, Old Light). A three piece horn section and guests guitarist Tom Ayres (Persephone’s Bees) and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys, Money Mark) will join in the fun, plus special guests Lavay Smith and Chris Siebert from the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Virgil Shaw, Will Sprott (The Mumlers), Bob Reed (Titan Ups), and Brigid Dawson (Thee Oh Sees).
A full set of R & B from the Viola Booth Group will start the night off, along with dance sets by DJ’s Andy Cabic & Orb with rare and archival soul music videos and films and projections from Oddball Films. It sounds like a good time, people. A real good time.
