Today, as part of a belated World Toilet Day stunt, enterprising local startup Lava Mae invited Market Street passersby to "C'mon, give a shit" with a series of colorfully decorated toilets that popped up at 10th and Market Streets.
Earlier this year Lava Mae announced their plan to convert old Muni buses into mobile shower stations for the city's homeless population. This week, Lava Mae founder Doniece Sandoval coordinated the public art installation to raise awareness of the millions of people around the world who don't have access to clean an private toilets.
The toilets are covered in fake fur, faux jewels, reading materials and other decorative elements and have not, as far as we can tell, been soiled yet. Lava Mae hopes to have four mobile shower stations ready to rollout around San Francisco by 2015.
