La Urbana, the well-regarded new upscale Mexican joint on Divisadero, is already winning praise for their inventive takes on the cuisine, but for us it's the creative cocktail list put together by bar manager Lucas Ranzuglia that keeps us coming back. One drink especially stood out: the Mexican Dude. It's a surprisingly refreshing and spicy drink that's perfect for this cool fall weather.
Named for the titular character in The Big Lewbowski, the Mexican Dude is a new spin on the White Russian with Mezcal and horchata in lieu of vodka and milk. La Urbana's horchata is housemade, but you can get your own at pretty much any taqueria or Mexican grocery store in the Mission. From there, it's a pretty straight forward drink, that really ties a meal together, man:
The Mexican Dude:
- .5 oz Borghetti coffee liquor
- 3/4 oz Belvedere Vodka
- 3/4 oz Peloton del a Muerte MEzcal
- 1.5 to 2 oz Horchata
Mix all ingredients in a shaker, cap, shake and serve over the rocks. With a cinnamon stick if you're feeling fancy.
