In case you doubted that the public library, in particular the Main Library at Civic Center, is an awful place with a clientele akin to the dreaded Walgreen's at 9th and Market, we have a story for you. A 61-year-old man who was minding his own business and trying to use a computer at the Main Library on Wednesday was viciously attacked and bloodied by a younger man he did not know.

This all happened just before 3 p.m., when the man, sitting at a row of computer terminals, felt something on the right side of his head. He was struck with a chair by one Clifton W. Moore, 25, who now faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. The victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening (though they left some blood splatter on the library floor), says he did not know and could not identify his attacker.

As the Examiner reports, this was just an average day at the office for employees at the library, who say that such incidents are pretty commonplace, and don't always get reported. Basically, they fear for their lives daily, but continue to do the good work of re-shelving books.
