Citing a "crippling illness," D'Angelo has backed out of the Friday lineup at Outside Lands, and he'll be replaced by Chic featuring famed disco guitarist and producer Nile Rodgers — whom young readers will know as one of the prominent collaborators on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, who helped write the mega-hit "Get Lucky."

Chic was of course most famous for the song "Le Freak," which you can see them performing in the video above at this year's Glastonbury Music Festival. And Rodgers has collaborated with tons of big artists over the years, including David Bowie, Madonna, and Duran Duran. And the very first hip-hop record ever, "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang, features a sample of "Good Times" by Chic, a song which Daft Punk cited as a major piece of their childhood and a primary influence on them as artists.

Naturally, after SF Station made the blunder of referring to Rodgers solely as a "Daft Punk collaborator" in making today's announcement, they've sparked a flurry of comments on Twitter and Facebook about Rodgers' career.

It was announced last month that Rodgers will be collaborating again with the Daft Punk boys to release some previously unreleased Chic material, and maybe you'll get a taste of that at OL.

Chic will go on at 6:05 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at the Sutro Stage. And though the fest is sold out, we imagine there are still plenty of tickets to be found on Craigslist and elsewhere.

Below, Rodgers talking to Rolling Stone about his career, the first time he heard a disco record, and what it was like working on Random Access Memories.
