The Paul Dresher Ensemble Electro-Acoustic Band is chamber music for the geeks: six or seven musicians on stage performing on an array of computerized instruments - and a couple good old analog ones to keep it grounded. If your combo contains keyboards, electronic mallet percussion and drum sets, electric guitar and bass, plus a violin, a clarinet, and a bassoon, chances are you will have to commission the music, Or even write it yourself, because you won't find it at the library. There's no random electronic instruments shelf in between string quartets and piano trios. And it will be quite idiosyncratic, in a realm bridging experimental contemporary music with jazz and pop.

Paul Dresher has been writing music and performing in addition to leading this ensemble, and some of his pieces have achieved iconic status. Say, The Tyrant, an one-man opera whom we saw performed by the same ensemble back in 2007, or his Slow Fire. He's been commissioned by the SF Ballet for their 75th anniversary season, Kronos, the SF Symphony, so quite the impressive credentials.
