The remains of a woman found in a Pleasanton, California trash can back in May have been identified as 25-year-old Ana Flores-Pineda of Stockton. Flores-Pineda's former boyfriend, Javier Prado Sandoval, has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
her body was discovered on May 24 when someone called in a suspicious-looking trash can on Dublin Canyon Road. Flores-Pineda, however, wasn't reported missing until several weeks later on June 12.
Police in Pleasanton apparently had a difficult time identifying the woman because the local databases failed to turn up any leads. The coroner's office initially determined the woman was probably Asian or Latino, but could have been anywhere from 18- to 40-years-old. After an initial autopsy, she was only identified as a woman with brown hair wearing pajama bottoms and an Old Navy shirt. The FBI and the DOJ were both brought in to help with the case back in August.
The ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Javier Prado Sandoval, was booked in the San Joaquin County jail yesterday after authorities served him with a search warrant at his home in Stockton. He is expected to be arraigned this Friday. According to the Contra Costa Times, the homicide marks Stockton's 61st this year, already more than last year's record-high murder rate of 58.
