As SFist and All Things D mentioned, Apple will unleash a new iPad Mini this fall, but toady a date has finally been leaked. Brace yourselves, Apple sect members.
Reports suggest that Apple will give birth a tiny (but not this tiny) and presumably thinner iPad on Tuesday, October 23. No word yet as to where the big (?) announcement will go down. All Things D says that it's probably going happen at Apple's Town Hall Auditorium. "The company has debuted a number of important products there in the past — OS X Lion, a next-generation MacBook Air and the iPhone 4S — so there’s plenty of precedent."
So, no Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Foo Fighters? Alas.
As for the rumored specifics. Media sources say that "the iPad’s diminutive sibling will feature a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display and a Lightning connector." As for price, CNET notes, "Pricing will be a big question, since Google and Amazon set $200 as the mark to beat. But don't count on Apple to make it $200. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said the Kindle Fire HD is sold at cost, so it doesn't make profit on the tablet. It's been estimated that Apple makes 40 percent profit on the iPad."
