The typically peaceful and friendly Dolores Park was shattered after holiday attendees trashed the noted Mission/Castro park during the 4th of July. For shame! "The Dolores Park crowd, estimated to number about 4,000 over the course of the holiday, left behind 'a mountain of garbage,' " Denny Kern, operations manager for the Recreation and Park Department, tells the Chronicle. Around 60 60-gallon trash bags were filled, while Recology were called in to make a special trash haul.

The Chronicle, however, fails to mention the other mess that happened over in the Marina. Furthermore, although Independence Day ickiness at Dolores Park made headlines today, the Chron curiously points out that said mess "wasn't an anomaly" and that equally voluminous trash can be found "after any sunny weekend day." Which: huh?
