A young man was fatally shot on Western Addition streets late Monday night. SFPD officers responding to reports of gunshots a few blocks North of Alamo Square arrived to find 21-year-old victim Lawrence Richardson lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound around 10:40 p.m. After being transported to a nearby hospital, Richardson was pronounced dead just before midnight.

According to SFPD sources, Richardson had just left a nearby convenience store when the shots rang out on Eddy Street between Divisadero and Scott. Although authorities don't have any leads on a suspect and have yet to establish a motive in the killing, it appears the victim was the shooter's intended target. The homicide is the third fatal instance of gun violence and San Francisco's 18th homicide of 2012.

Anyone with any information in the case is encouraged to call SFPD's anonymous tipline at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.
