Tragedy on a Napa valley highway this morning after a wine truck overturned on Highway 29, spilling glass bottles out on to the roadway. The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m this morning, and blocked all lanes on Southbound 29 until CHP cleanup crews could bring out a sweeper truck to pick up the glass. Highway didn't completely reopen until around 9:15 this morning.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but CHP appear to be chalking this one up to the rain and some sloppy driving. Luckily, the driver appears to be uninjured for the most part and - thank god- the bottles were reportedly empty and on their way to the recycling center.
Strangely enough, a similar event happened up the valley last month, making Highway 29 something like a Bermuda Triangle for wine trucks.
