As Mercury News reports, shameful San Jose resident Sandra Lizbeth Contreras-Velazquez was arrested last week for allegedly befriending about half a dozen elementary school-aged girls in order to sneak away with their gold jewelry.
Contreras-Velazquez reportedly posed as a parent — using a toddler as a "ruse" — at six San Jose elementary schools, including Kennedy, Washington, Russo/McEntee, Grant, Trace and Horace Mann, and allegedly made away with the poor kids' gold necklaces, collectively trading them in for cash.
Apparently Contreras-Velazquez asked each kid if she could see their necklaces and then replaced them with costume jewelry. Contreras-Velazquez was booked on six counts of felony grand theft and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
On a side note: the Mercury News comments section is starting to rival the quality of SFGate's.
