A photography and video project called 1Day 6Cities, focused around last Friday's seminal 11/11/11 date, is taking as its subject six international cities for a kind of slice-of-life, what's-happening-around-the-world-this-instant documentary project, and one of them is our very own San Francisco. The idea was to get photographers and videographers in each city to take photos every minute on the minute for 24 hours that day, and the resulting stills and videos would then be shown in six exhibitions, one in each city.

The most arresting video to date is this time-lapse of downtown Dubai -- videos like this will be made for each city, focusing on the tallest building there, with each symbolizing one of the 1s in 11/11/11.

The other cities besides S.F. and Dubai are Shanghai, London, Auckland, and Sao Paolo. So far, for S.F., all we're seeing is this brief time-lapse of the Transamerica pyramid below, by photographer Neil Fraser, but the assignment for citizen photographers was just to shoot non-postcard-y scenes anywhere in town, so we're looking forward to more as those trickle in. Follow the notable submissions here on the 1day6cities blog or on their Facebook. It's unclear when and where the S.F. exhibit will take place, and so far we only see that two photographers participated, but perhaps there were more...
