The intersection on Funston and Balboa is blocked off this morning after an SFPD officer-involved shooting occurred. According to KRON 4 Morning News, two people were carried off by ambulances and a woman was arrested.

SFPD spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge explained that at least two elderly people were stabbed this morning, which prompted the shooting.

We'll update as soon as we know more.

Update: The Chron is reporting that the 44-year-old man police shot, around 7:30 a.m. this morning, had just stabbed two elderly relatives (his parents?). An elderly man was found bleeding "profusely" in the doorway of a home, suffering wounds to his forearm and hands, and he's expected to survive. But then there's more drama:

At the top of the stairway, officers found an elderly woman who had also been stabbed. She was suffering from wounds to her upper body that appeared to be life-threatening, police said.

As the officers tried to pull the woman to safety, they were confronted in a hallway by a man who was "holding a knife in each hand above his head, advancing toward the officers," Dangerfield said.

Officers fired a bean-bag weapon, a less-than-lethal device, to try to stop him, but it was ineffective, Dangerfield said.

Police shot the man, and he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Additionally, there was a woman in her 30s found unharmed, hiding in the back of the house. This all happened on the 600 block of Funston Avenue.
