An unidentified man, who is described as being in his 40s, reportedly stopped his car in the middle of traffic on the westbound side of the Bay Bridge this afternoon at about 2:45 p.m. Witnesses say he then jumped the rail and climbed onto the ledge of the upper deck of the bridge's western span, near the far right lane, just past the Treasure Island exit.

CHP closed two lanes of traffic on the westbound side of the bridge and one lane on the eastbound side, while SFPD negotiated with the man for almost two hours with the assistance of San Francisco and Oakland fire departments. The man was taken into custody at around 4:40 p.m. and transported to San Francisco General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. ABC7 has photos of the arrest.

The incident caused traffic to back up westbound past Golden Gate Fields and eastbound to around Cesar Chavez Street, and traffic from the Giants game caused further congestion, inconveniencing lots of Twits.
