According to the Chronicle this morning Blanche, the sole remaining swan at the Palace of Fine Arts Lagoon, returned home Sunday after her stay at the San Francisco Zoo and a brief vacation to Point Reyes. Her trip up the coast was for a "blind date of sorts" with Blue Boy and Bella, a 2-year-old brother and sister duo who became fast friends with the 13-year-old survivor of last November's waterfowl murder.

According to volunteer caretaker Gayle Hagerty, Blanche is excited to be back: ''She's been wiggling her tail, diving under the water.'' So, basically it's back to swan business as usual.

Hagerty and fellow volunteer Judy Whilt paid out of pocket to adopt the new companions who have arrived just in time for the Rec and Park Department's unveiling of renovations at the Palace lagoon next week.
