A new comedy club is opening November 4 on the mezzanine level of the AMC Van Ness building at 1000 Van Ness (actually called the Don Lee Cadillac Building and built in 1921). It's called Holly's Comedy Club, and the partners behind it are former actress Holly Horn and luxury car dealer Kjell Qvale (pronounced “shell” “kah-volley”), who formerly worked together at British Motor Car Dealers across the street. Horn retired from show business a while back, but she still remembers the vibrant community of comics that existed when she first started performing in San Francisco in the 70s. She hopes to bring that back at Holly's, and make it a place “where laughter lives.” Also, it will be a place where much leopard-print carpeting lives.
Instead of a two-drink minimum, Holly's will have a two-item minimum with a full food menu of small plates, as well as late-night omelets -- something both Holly and Kjell love, and something which first bonded them as friends. Also, they'll be doing a happy hour popcorn bar, with toppings, from 4 to 7 p.m. on weeknights.
The club opens on November 4 with headlining act David Crowe, doing two shows a night on November 4, 5, and 6. Tickets and info here.
