The Examiner and SF Appeal reports that James Dougherty, who has served as Muni's chief safety officer for only a year, has been interviewing for other jobs and may be looking to bow out quickly from his position.

We have Dougherty to thank for the drive-cams in buses that gave us that marvelous footage of the Potrero Hill collision between a bus and a pickup truck. But Dougherty's tenure has also been littered with a lot of high-profile bus and metro accidents (like that big collision at West Portal that injured 47 people), even though Muni claims there was an overall drop in safety incidents between 2008 and 2009.
