Picture it: You're on the beach watching your boyfriend catch some big breaks off Dunes Beach in Half Moon Bay. Darkness is falling. You lose sight of him as the waves start getting bigger, and then you see his surfboard wash ashore with the leg strap broken (but not, as pictured, with any bite marks taken out of it -- photo for illustrative purposes only.

This is what happened last night around 5 p.m., and within fifteen minutes two boats were out in the water, eventually finding him amid 14-foot waves, and rescued him. He said after the strap broke on his board, the waves were too powerful for him to swim back to shore and he was getting pummeled.
