Turning 72-years-old today, the Golden Gate Bridge celebrates another year as San Francisco's most notable landmark. The bridge-opening party kicked off on May 27, 1937, lasting for one week.

To view its grim side, watch The Bridge, Eric Steel's brilliant and groundbreaking documentary that tells the stories of a few locals who committed suicide at the Golden Gate Bridge in 2004 -- capturing them, if you will, as they take the final jump. (Warning: Not for the faint of heart.)
