Seems San Francisco based Pottery Barn Kids is recalling "about 92,000 chamois blankets because the decorative stitching can come loose, posing a strangulation hazard to a young child." The high-markup quality polyester blankets, which were stitched in Korea, retailed for about 30 bucks each, which means they're set to lose about 3 million bucks in returns. Lord knows what the potential liability and blow to their brand identity will cost them.
And if that's not enough, Pottery Barn's parent company, Williams Sonoma is holding them responsible for their fourth quarter revenue shortfall. We have it on good authority that blaming subordinates is part of their corporate culture, which someone should probably clue this craigslist poster into before he or she makes a decision they might live to regret.
Sfist urges all our Pottery Barn Kids shopping readers to put down the Internet and check on their kids immediately. If they're choking on a blanket, contact Pottery Barn Kids at 877-800-9720 between 7 a.m. and 12 a.m. EST for information on how to receive a refund or replacement. We say go for the cash.
SFist will keep you posted on the number consumers should call when they realize that their purchases from Pottery Barn are cheap, ugly, and without character.
