Newsom will now appoint a permanent replacement for Ed Jew's seat on the Board of Supes (presumably interim District 4 supervisor Carmen Chu is the leading candidate, unless Jennifer Siebel-soon-to-be-hyphenate-Newsom is living by the zoo now and wants something to do on Tuesday and Thursday nights), and that replacement will rule through to the November 08 election. The seat will be up for election, along with the other odd-numbered districts (which were up anyways).

Ron Dudum, for one, has said he's going to re-throw his hat into the ring, claiming that he came in second back in 2006 anyways -- though you may remember that David Latterman, city elections number cruncher, reran the numbers through the ranked-choice voting algorithms and concluded that if Ed Jew's first place votes were tossed out, the excitingly-voweled and suspiciously-fundraised Jaynry Mak actually would have won.

--Ed cannot hold office in SF for 5 years. (Is Burlingame city council still up for grabs, though?)
--No admission of guilt by Ed (so will this come in for the city criminal trial?)
--In exchange, the city drops the civil suit and Gavin Newsom's investigation.
--Ed was not present at the press conference, on advice of counsel. (drat.)
--Does not affect federal case, though Ed's attorney discussed possible settlement of that one too.
--Ed's attorney called him naive (sure, that's one way of putting it).
--Settlement agreement is 9 pages long; Herrera says this particular offer has been on the table for awhile.
--Ed's attorney says Ed'll never run for office again.
--This litigation cost the city $300,000 (we assume that doesn't include charges for the criminal case).
Well, Angela -- that day is nigh: City Attorney Dennis Herrera takes a break from infuriating the ACLU, the NRA, and Mark Geragos to announce that he's holding a press conference at 1 p.m. where Ed Jew is expected to resign from the Board of Supes.

Ed's resignation is in response to the civil claims of non-residency that Dennis Herrera brought against him -- this doesn't affect Kamala Harris's criminal case on the same issue, or the federal extortion case either. Those cases will keep on going. How to resolve those, then? Well, maybe Ed can cry on cue when someone asks him about the status of those cases -- hey, it worked for Hillary Clinton!

Keep it locked on your SFist radio dial, faithful readers -- we'll update either this post or the site as the Ed Jew news comes in. Now's the time to start emailing us your funny Ed Jew pictures, too -- the hilariousest ones may be used to illustrate future posts! (Update: SFist will be sending someone to the 1:00 pm press conference. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!!)
