We can't find any coverage of it online yet, but your reports to us say that it was a media circus, and moderately-well-attended by pro Ed Jew folks. Joe O'Donoghue seems to have gotten over his whole "pregnancy brain" thing with Amy Lee enough to give a stemwinder of a speech, accusing various other elected officials of not living in their districts either. Of our DA, he said, "Kamala Harris is the Duke prosecutor of San Francisco."

Reading Alex's comments, I have not laughed that hard for a long, long time. Priceless, you can't make this stuff up.
As an Asian American and being half-Chinese, I don't think that the way the press and other city government officials treating Ed Jew is not based on his ethnicity or racial background.
Ed simply broke a bunch of rules:
--Ethics, you don't take money from others. That's called a bribe. Unfortunately, it was a Chinese American based tapioca drink company; but it is just the same if a non-Chinese business (McDonalds, In-n-Out, etc.) bribed too.
--If you don't live in SF (live on the property, not just own it), why the hell run for a high profile government job? Eventually, he would get caught for that.
Basically, he's "fucked" and the troubles just don't magically disappear if he resigns or gets kicked out through the process. I'd personally would keep hounding him for surrendering to cops in Burlingame, because that's just an easy way to admit that you don't live in SF.
Think of the Newsom "alcohol" scandal, the media pounded him for weeks, but did anyone think of it as ethnicity/race? I think not.
Ed Jew supporters look like fools. The man broke several laws, which is why he's charged with NINE FELONIES. Lying about where he lived had other implications beyond being a SF Supervisor. He got a drivers license using the phony address; that's illegal. He registered to vote using the phony address; that also illegal. Then he actually voted in that district; yet another felony. People may say these aren't like rape and murder, but the law considers them serious criminal violations.
And even if he DID live on 28th Avenue, there's still the issue that he shook down the Quickly people for $40,000, which he took IN CASH. That cannot be explained innocently. A suitcase full of $20 bills is never innocent.
He may be a nice guy .... but fairness demands equal enforcement regardless of how nice he is.

1. "They never check."
During the '06 campaign, I was putting up signs while Ed was doing his "meet & greets" on Taraval. We stopped by his house to pick up something. It was vacant. I asked to use the bathroom. Ed said it wasn't working. I said I heard that supes are supposed to live in their respective districts. Ed said "they never check."
2. The "Why Not?"
Long story short. The Wonderful Foods - Quickly saga was mostly the greedy, trifling, hair-brained work of people much smaller than Ed. When I first heard the proposal to approach the first Quickly with a proposal, I asked, "Why get involved over pennies?". Ed replied, "Why not?"
I was going to share a third story called "Who cares if there's a reporter outside Taraval Station?," but it's pointless.
I feel like I've lived a bad sequel to "Final Destination," since I was unable to prevent the outcome; even a fraction thereof.
Final thought - With friends, lawyers and advisors like that, who needs enemies?

Joe O'Donoghue is THE BIGGEST CROOK in SF and it's no suprise he is supporting the Jewster. A quick take on Joe. A friend of mine needed to get a permit to start construction on a building and Joe said to him "a donation to the RBA would probably get that permit thing moving" I believe the amount was in the tens of thousands. Did anyone wonder why he was so against Amy Lee's appointment? Without control of the process he wouldn't be able to blackmail people into donating to the RBA. What a complete joke. Him sticking up for Jew is like Scott Peterson sticking up for OJ.
Issues of residency and qualification for office are, sadly, not as clear cut as one might think.
In the Daily Journal, they had a legal article which explained several cases where the appeals court had made counterintuitive findings on residency.
In Groveland, above Priest Grade on 120 towards Yosemite, an elected member of some district owned a home in the district and was registered to vote in the district. She also owned a home outside the district where she lived and registered her homeowner's property tax exemption. A cop lived in her house in town as a caretaker. The appeals court found she was qualified to serve in the district where she owned property and registered to vote. Go figure.
What we're seeing here is a squeeze play cooperation between Harris and Herrera. Herrera sets a deadline for producing evidence as to residence, and Harris forces Jew to choose between his freedom and office with the criminal charges.
We can expect Newsom to suspend Jew next week for not forfeiting his 5th amendment rights and to then initiate official misconduct removal at Ethics and the Board of Supervisors.
I do not believe that there is any way that Jew can stay the quasi judicial nature of official misconduct in light of preserving his 5th amendment rights, and there is no guarantee that the Mayor, Ethics or Board of Supervisors has to apply the law to an Official Misconduct proceeding.
There does not even appear to even be a discovery right for the defendant in an Official Misconduct proceeding.
If this were not a case of a kangaroo court, the ruling class of the City closing in on a heretic, then the criminal matters would put the civil matters on hold. But instead of preserving rights, Harris and Herrera seem to be conspiring to relieve Jew of his constitutional rights.
The best way to remove Jew with cause is for the voters of D4 to do it in a recall if that is what they choose. Otherwise, the way that local government has played this out, it is nothing more than a hit job.

Ed’s Defense Committee is working towards starting a full investigation into all of the other Supervisors public records and will demonstrate there is an established precedence and it is common for Supervisors to lie and misstate information about their political residence verses their home residence. Why has Ed Jew been singled out.
The question begs to be asked; how many of these other known incidents involving misleading or false residential information concerning Supervisors have ever been investigated, and if known, were never used to arrest and accuse an Official with a Felony? Until Now.

Treyman: (#157)
In 2004, I was a plumbing sub-contractor on a job on Jackson Stret, SF. The contractor, a non-RBA member like myself, had a stop order issued by non other than Carla Johnson, then an Acting Deputy Director, now a Senior Inspector (with the BBI).
Joe O'Donoghue helped get this stop-order lifted. And, that invlvement necessitated not only countless hours on his part but also a BBI Commission hearing and vote.
Not only did Joe O'Donoghue not request a fee for his hours and services, he refused a donation when offered, both to himself and to the RBA.
For the record, Slimeball, Joe O'Donoghue told this (non SF) general contractor that his and the RBA's services were free of charge and that the contractor was ineligible for RBA membership since he did not intend to do any more work in SF.
Oh, and by the way, I am now a very good friend of Joe O'Donoghue. You should be only 1/8th the man, friend and fighter that he is.

I’ve read with disgust the statements of Treyman (#57) on Joe O’Donoghue and the RBA. It’s obvious that from his statements, Treyman is not in the construction business but rather in the business of lying, character assassination and slander.
Several years ago, my neighbor, an attorney who has his own law firm, sought permission to build an extension to his home. This extension was very over-sized and impacted not only our quality of life but also our light and air that we have enjoyed for 30 years.
Dissatisfied and frustrated after interviewing land use attorneys and others, we turned to Joe O’Donoghue. We did not know Joe either personally or even on a social basis. However, we knew that his passion for helping the underdog is legendary.
Not only did he listen to us and help, he guided and strategized us through the cumbersome nightmarish bureaucratic process. And, when the attorney-neighbor filed an extensive legal brief appealing the decision of the Planning Commission, Joe crafted our response and wrote the retort. The result was that the attorney withdrew his appeal. We now have new neighbors – thank goodness – and thanks to Joe O’Donoghue, we are still enjoying our light and air that we have had for so long.
Incidentally, Joe adamantly refused any compensation for his time, hours and service and also refused our offers of donations to the RBA.
Mister, all I can say is, I don’t know you, but what I do know is that you should be horse-whipped for your libelous lies.
PS – one attorney, who did help us at the Planning Commission, with advice to Joe, was Steve Williams, and to him we are also eternally grateful.
I am amazed at the slander some people will write (see Treyman #57. I was a neighbor of a 6 unit building whose renters all received eviction notices because the new owner wanted to Ellis Act the Building. The renters were familiies with young babies; minorities in their 70's and 80's who had nowhere else to go; gays and transvestites. They were beside themselves, had no idea how to fight this, and who came to their rescue? None other than Joe O'Donoghue who immediately understood their plight, got them in touch with Raquel Fox of the THC, organized rallies, and strategies so that a good outcome could result. Otherwise, all these people would have been put on the street in short order. That's the Joe O'Donoghue I know. Treyman: who the hell are you anyway? Obviously, someone who has never done a good deed in your life, and is so filled with hate, you must be quite a miserable person to spread these vicious lies.
Can anyone tell me who this guy Treyman (#57) is? Sources close to RBA members speculate him to be somebody named Harrington, a former friend of O’Donoghue’s. From what I hear said, this guy Harrington, an attorney, who is well connected, is a real sicko. Sounds like a great story and great entertainment here. Can someone step forward and elaborate?
I’ve just read the postings of Treyman (#57) that calls Joe O’Donoghue and the RBA blackmailers. As far as I am concerned, these statements by Treyman are nothing but ethnic vile lies of envy and pure hatred. I concur with Lady Gregory’s statement that Treyman “should be horsewhipped for these libelous lies”.
For the record, I live in a multi-unit residential complex at Golden Gate and Lyon where two years ago I and all the other tenants faced immediate eviction. The basis of these evictions was the issuance of several remodeling permits by the BBI Department. Fortunately, one of the tenants had appealed the legality of these permit issuances, for which we needed four out of five votes to overturn, an insurmountable task even in the best of times. Amy Lee, the then acting director of BBI who issued these permits supported the issuance and the evictions. No-one, and I mean no-one, gave us a chance in hell of prevailing…that is, until we met Joe O’Donoghue.
Joe infused us all both with a new vigor and a hope of redemption. With the help of Raquel Fox of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic, he coached us and helped us in a strategy that was unique and unorthodox.
The result: 5 votes out of 5 in our favor. This caused the project sponsor to withdraw his building permits.
For the record, Joe O’Donoghue has never asked us for a nickel in compensation for himself or the RBA – a generosity as I understand it that is alien both to you, Mr. Treyman, and to your peer attorney friends.
