The new G1, which was unveiled today, takes aim at Apple's popular (and, arguably, somewhat cloying) iPhone. The Google phone offers you a slideout keyboard (not a clumsy touchpad), can download songs remotely via Wi-Fi (through Amazon, iTunes), and is available to T-Mobile customers (and not AT&T's). Also, it uses something called the Android operating system. Basically, it's the phone FROM THE FUTURE! Oh, and it has a 3 megapixel camera and full HTML browser. (Let Valleywag tell you all about it here.)

And the best part? It goes for $179 (probably with account activation) on October 22. But will you take a ride on the G1 line?

Jeff in Market for New Car, According to Analysts

"If you want to sell your car, call Jeff," said a sign tacked to a Russian Hill phone pole this weekend. "If you want to sell your car, call Jeff," said a sign tacked to a Russian Hill phone pole this weekend. There's a phone number attached, but here's what's weird: a little Googling reveals a rogue's gallery attached to that number. According to one page, it's transitional housing on 9th Street. According to another, it's a publisher on Clement. And Google's cache reveals a slew of Craigslist postings for psychics from Albany, Flagstaff, and Anchorage.

Which is a shame, because aside from the sketchy phone number, this offer seemed so reputable.

New 3G iPhone 2.0 Revealed?

CrunchGear allegedly has t...

SF News

3g iphone release

iphone

new

phone

steve jobs

Technology in San Francisco & Silicon Valley

Brock Keeling

CrunchGear allegedly has the first photos on the Internet for the new 3G iPhone. According to Network World:

From the TechGear description and looking at the pictures it's definitely thinner than the original iPhone and looks reminiscent of the MacBook Air. Gotta love the multiple colors and the "red" campaign branding. Looks like the "jesus phone" got an exterior upgrade to match it's new internals.

Also, you can do video chat with your iPhone geek pals, but only via WiFi.

Of course, the Internets being what it is, these images could be fake. And the new iPhone could very well not cure AIDS. Stay tuned!

Update: Spysea tells us:

The new models will feature GPS satellite-tracking chips, third-generation (3G) cellular Internet access, better audio, longer battery life, metal buttons and a regular flush headphone jack. The 8-gigabyte model will retail for $199 in the U.S., its 16-gigabyte sister for $299 ? and the latter variation will also come in white. It hits stores on July 11 in the U.S. and 21 other countries, including Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong and most of western Europe.

The original iPhone launched less than a year ago on June 29, 2007. And speculation on the new 3G version runs high. Global positioning system (GPS) capabilities, video recording, an upgraded camera, performing fellatio, a virtual slide rule, and more space are all possible new additions to the swank iPhone. (And we'll start to care as soon as it becomes available to another carrier.)

Have you soiled yourself with excitement yet? Within the hour, iPhone fans outside Moscone Center sure will. Jobs goes on at 10 a.m.

Witnesses say that "Slaughter waited for one train to pass on a first set of tracks, then crossed onto the second set of tracks and was hit by a second train."

According to CBS 5, the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau claims that Slaughter neither heard nor saw the train coming at him. Sad. Very sad. We can't count how many times we have crossed intersections, unaware of the red light because we were futzing around with our phone. Ugh. Well, not much else to say, but: again, be careful while talking, texting, and walking on the streets, y'all.
