There’s two solid hours of local news from 5-7 p.m., followed by Inside Edition at 7 p.m., Entertainment Tonight at 7:30, and then another two hours of news from 8-10 p.m. But that format is likely to go out the window, as SFGate reports that KRON4 is becoming an affiliate of the CW Network.

The transition is scheduled for September 1.

If you’re not familiar with the CW Network’s repertoire of television programs, they play two hours of prime time TV shows most nights, generally from 8-10 p.m. The most critically acclaimed of these is the “Archie” comic reboot Riverdale, and they’ve also got the current version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, a Nancy Drew show, and some DC Comics spinoffs Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights. They're also getting the HBO reality show cult hit FBoy Island and its spinoff FGirl Island.

And controversially, the CW is also the exclusive TV home of LIV Golf, the Saudi-owned gold league that’s torn apart the pro golf community.
Remember back in August when beloved local finger-wagger Stanley Roberts suffered a series of small strokes and went abruptly off the air at KRON 4? Well, happily, he received treatment in time, and has been recovering the last two months, and he's already back at work. He posted the video above announcing his return to the newsroom to fans today.

The Chronicle reports that Roberts took "swift action" after he thought he might be having a stroke on August 28. "All of a sudden my arm felt like it weighed 80 pounds. Then I tried to talk and couldn't," he said.

Roberts was rushed to the emergency room in time, he looks pretty well recovered and able to talk easily in the video above. He was, in fact, tweeting just hours after the strokes occurred, saying he'd only be out "a few days."

KRON4 News, San Francisco's #1 source of grocery store health code violations and people behaving badly is back at it today, turning their attention from the meat case at Whole Foods to the Safeway in Diamond Heights, where the grocery store scored a measly 66 out of 100 on its latest health inspection.

On April 22, a health inspector dropped by the store at 5290 Diamond Heights Blvd and observed all sorts of unclean behavior that generally should not occur in front of someone in that position. According to Department of Public Health spokesman Richard Lee, the store suffered from "multiple high risk violations" that were bad enough for Lee to personally warn shoppers away from the location.

“I would have concerns about this place," Lee explained. “Let’s say I had a choice of going to this Safeway or another Safeway, I would go to the other ones, but I don’t think it’s unsafe."

The violations, which happened right in front of inspectors, included: employees handling food with dirty hands, unclean or improperly sanitized work surfaces, and food being stored at the wrong temperatures. One inspector even saw a worker drop a food label on the floor before placing it directly on a piece of meat.

According to KRON4's Dan Kerman, who is quickly becoming the Stanley Roberts of grocery stores, the Diamond Heights Safeway has a history of high risk violations. The store says they are currently addressing said issues.

Maggotgate 2014 continues today, and KRON4 will not rest until every last larvae has been eliminated from the Noe Valley Whole Foods.

According to KRON4, San Francisco's finest source of bad behavior and maggot-related investigative journalism, the San Francisco Health Department claims Whole Foods did not move fast enough to clean their meat cases.

Whole Foods originally claimed they cleaned out the case several times since whistleblower Marc Melancon first spotted "more than 40" maggots in the meat case. Although Whole Foods claimed at the time there was just one wriggly fly larva in the display case, the Health Department confirmed what everyone already knows: If you see one maggot, there are more somewhere and ordered the meat department to completely clean all the floor sinks and drains, which may have been the source of the problem.

On Tuesday, however, KRON4 and the Health Department inspectors returned to the 24th Street market to find the work had not been done. Whole Foods chalked the oversight up to a miscommunication and promised another cleaning Tuesday night.

Although the Whole Foods claims there was never any public health risk, Melancon felt remorseful about the whole situation and apologized on-air, saying, "Anybody that I can and anybody that I sold meat to." Also, KRON4 would like to remind everyone that Maggotgate 2014 is a story, "you'll only see on KRON4:"

We make no attempt to hide our unabashed fanboyism for local newsman Stanley Roberts and the fine work he does over at KRON4. But for every hilariously voiced People Behaving Badly segment, there are one or two people who would like to see Stanley himself put through the wringer. For the haters, here is Stanley's latest segment, in which he undergoes a grueling eight-hour training session with recruits from the California Highway Patrol in Sacramento:

After KRON4's Stanley Roberts blew the lid off this whole Cyclists Behaving Badly thing earlier this week, the golden-voice newsman was hit with a wave of backlash for his lopsided investigation in to cyclists blowing stop signs along the Wiggle. Roberts, however, is not one to take the criticism lying down. Roberts and his crew returned to the popular bike route to milk out another two minutes of footage taunting his two-wheeled haters.

According to Roberts, the cyclists he busted earlier deserve scorn for their bad behavior, as well as their whining about unfair treatment. As he says, annoyingly, "What is this? The fifth grade?" The twitter comments he received and "anti-bike" accusations from our friends over at Uptown Almanac are just more fodder in his Bay-wide crusade against bad behavior.

And the list of offenses doesn't stop at the intersections: headphone-wearing bikers are just asking for tickets as well. Even those who signal before rolling a right-turn stop sign are inexcusable in front of KRON4's camera crews.

Sadly, Roberts' equally lopsided follow-up piece does nothing to address the bad behavior of the drivers in the Lower Haight. As several SFist commenters noted earlier this week, more than one driver can be spotted pulling a California Roll in KRON4's own footage. Those shots, we guess, just don't play so well on the local news.

Roberts does have a history of documenting bad behavior amongst the internal combustion set as well. Recall that one time he captured this delightfully sassy guy in an Elmo shirt while filming local law enforcement handing out tickets for moving violations.

KRON 4's Stanley Roberts, owner of the best newsman voice in the entire state of California as well as a Bay to Breakers pee voyeur, is back with a new installment of his delightful People Behaving Badly local news segment. This time around, Roberts uses his golden voice to shed some light on that insidious crime spree currently happening in the Lower Haight: cyclists running stop signs along the Wiggle.

In the 30 minutes, it took Mr. Roberts to get enough footage to produce his local Emmy-worthy piece, 13 cyclists received tickets from the SFPD for blowing through stop signs. While the cyclists' excuses range from "I thought they were yields for bikers" to "eh, whatever," at least one ticked-off pedestrian was on hand to provide the kind of rambling counterargument that these segments thrive on. Tying the whole thing together is a bonus cameo by local celebrity parrot Patricia Dolores at the two minute mark.

KRON 4's Stanley Roberts, the genius newsman behind such "People Behaving Badly" reports as 4/20 On Hippie Hill and Copper Pirates Arrested, has dug up an old segment from the pre-Zazzle heyday of Bay to Breakers in 2008. Roberts, as thorough as always, covers all the drinking-in-public, peeing-in-bushes highlights that have died down somewhat in the new police state era of sobriety tents and float corrals. Observe:

If you watch only one local news report about the 4/20 shenanigans in Golden Gate Park, please do yourself a favor and watch Stanley Roberts' look at the annual smokeout for his incredibly entertaining, "People Behaving Badly" segment on KRON4.

We've been fans of Stanley's since that time he investigated Dolores Park graffiti and pirates in the Bayview, but there's nothing more fun than watching some stoner kid from the outer counties explain to him how a gas mask bong works. And when he says, in that impeccable newsman voice, "It was crazy. Never have I seen so many ways to ingest weed." — well, it's probably the closest thing we'll get to another Daily Show segment. Someone should get Stanley Roberts a Local Emmy.

Oakland Day of Action Protesters Shut Down 980/880 Freeway

A group of a few hundred protesters who had gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland broke off and marched onto the 980 freeway, laid down, and blocked traffic going in both directions toward 880 and ...

SF News

980 freeway

civc center

education reform

kron4

Oakland

protest

Jay Barmann

You saw the photos of the Civic Center rally protesting education cuts, but across the Bay they weren't fucking around. A group of a few hundred protesters who had gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland broke off and marched onto the 980 freeway, laid down, and blocked traffic going in both directions toward 880 and the Bay Bridge in order to call attention to the cause. A bunch were arrested, including some juveniles. As Oakland North reports, 150 were arrested in total and bussed off the scene by police via the 4th and Jackson off-ramp.
